J. Scott Backes
President
Mr. Backes oversees the vision, strategy, and execution of Brydant Real Estate, with a primary focus on advising manufacturing, distribution, and industrial users on real estate decisions that directly impact their operational efficiencies and long-term growth strategies.
He works closely with corporate clients and operators to align real estate with business strategy -integrating facility programming, workflow optimization, site selection, financial modeling, design, and development execution into a single, advisory-driven process. His approach goes way beyond brokerage, helping companies make high-stakes decisions such as whether to pursue relocation, expansion, renewal, or ground-up development based on individual strategic objectives.
Scott began his career with engineering roles at Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) and Medtronic (NYSE: MDT), where he developed a foundational understanding of how large organizations operate, scale, and make capital decisions within manufacturing environments.
He later transitioned his engineering skill-sets to civil engineering and land planning, gaining more than 14 years of experience across industrial, commercial, and master-planned developments—giving him a rare ability to bridge the gap between corporate users, design teams, and development execution.
Scott now specializes in representing industrial users in complex real estate transactions, with a focus on manufacturing environments that require precision in layout, power, loading, and expansion capability. His recent work includes the ground-up development of a Two-Phased, 944,000-square-foot manufacturing facility for 3Z Brands (www.3zbrands.com) sitting on 42 Acres of Land in Glendale, AZ and a 209,000-square-foot manufacturing build-out for Fairfield Processing Corporation (www.fairfieldworld.com) in Goodyear, AZ —projects that required deep integration between real estate, operations, and capital planning.
Scott brings over 24 years of experience spanning corporate management, engineering, real estate, and development. His clients rely on him and his team as a strategic-partner who can evaluate operational needs, underwrite real estate decisions, and execute projects from conception through delivery.
Scott’s undergraduate studies were at Arizona Christian University and graduate studies at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and Harvard Business School. He is a member of the Harvard alumni community and serves on the board of directors of the Harvard Club of Phoenix, where he has previously served as President in 2017/2018.
Outside of work, Scott and his wife Jennifer are active with their faith-based community and are outdoor enthusiasts where you will find them on their boat, mountain biking, hiking, or overlanding. They have raised a blended family of six children, and have 3 grandchildren and have also served as foster parents in the State of Arizona.
